Did a program installer set-up our computers to be hacked?

My company had 8 security cameras installed. We paid a computer guy to configure our system to so that we could access the cameras from any computer through our DSL internet connection. When I attempted to configure my bosses computer, using the instructions given to me by this computer guy, all of my bosses personal files popped up on the screen in an orderly fashion. I called the computer guy on the phone for assistance and he was very shaken about what happened. It seems it had something to do with active x or something. So, I wonder, since all of our IP addresses were used by this computer guy could he have access to all of our computer files? Why would all of my bosses banking files, word files, etc. show up on the computer screen when all I was attempting to do was to install the program (given to me by the computer guy) to access the security cameras from a remote computer?

That is the bad thing about Active X controls - they have all the same permissions as the user on the computer. Technically he COULD have put a "backdoor" in to gain access - it is possible. As to if he did or not is hard to tell. It could also be another hacker. If it is available to you to access remotely someone else can to, even though there may be preventative measures in place. It could be done, however unlikely. Sorry I cant help anymore than that.
