I'm looking for a home security camera that works really good at night. Do you know of any?
We recently bought a camera, but it doesn't do well at night, so we're going to return it. I don't want to spend a ton of money because we're just trying to catch some jerk who's been coming on our property and damaging things. Thanks!
Hi Wise Guy.. nothing new since the windshield incident... we just want to catch him/her if they do anything else. Had we bought the camera before this time, we would have caught the person and they would have been arrested by now. We have a sherriff's deputy that lives at the end of our road, so it would have been easy to get him to come over and see the video. I'm making the soup today with that pasta my husband brought from Chicago. With the exception of my chicken pieces larger than Campbell's, it looks just like Chicken Noodle-Os. 
Cameras need light to operate well. One of the differences between cheap security cameras and expensive security cameras is the amount of light that they need to produce a usable picture.
You have two basic choices: you can buy a more expensive camera that works with less light, or you can add lights to better illuminate the areas that you want to cover.
A third option would be to install what are known as "infrared illuminators". These provide a light source that the camera can see, but is invisible to the human eye. Some cameras now include infrared illuminators on them, but these usually only work a relatively short distance away from the camera. You can also buy separate infrared illuminators that cover a larger area.
