With a Tivo Series 2 DVR, can I use a cable card?
I have an HDTV-ready TV and TimeWarner cable. Will it work? Will I be able to record HD signals or do I need to buy a Series3 or HD to get that?
Will I be able to record basic cable shows still? If so, is the only advantage to avoid the ugly cable box and the monthly cable company fee? I don't care about losing OnDemand and pay per view functionality.

No, TiVo does not offer cable card slots on the series 2. The price has dropped on the series 3 which does support cable cards. You can record basic TV shows without the cable cards. I don't have them in my series 3 because I don't use on demand or pay per view. I feed the cable directly into my TiVo and I get all the channels and can record two at once.
