How should I prepare my film and film cameras for airport security?
This Friday I'm flying from BWI through Chicago to Nashville, TN. I'm planning on bringing a decent amount of film with me, as well as two film cameras, a Nikon FA and a Mamiya 645. Both are currently loaded, and there's no time to finish the rolls.
I'm planning on having the film ready to be hand-checked once I reach security, but the cameras? Do they put them in a light-tight bag and open the backs or anything? There's an expensive roll of slide film in the FA and a pretty pricey roll of color negatives in the 645 so I don't want to take any risks. I've read a few times that I should bring my own sealed darkbag for them, but that seems a little outlandish.
Any precautions I should take?
The TSA agents will want to look inside your camera. You should unload it before you go to the airport.
As for the film you are taking, present it in the unopened packaging and be prepared to open the packages and show the agent the film in its little containers.
There may be other options, but these are the most likely to get you through without any hassle.
