Camera Hidden Cctv

Why is CCTV bad thing?
I always hear people saying how this is becoming a 'big-brother' type world. It is always said in a negative way, and I can't understand why. Surely CCTV and other forms of cameras and surveillance is a good thing? I can't find one reason to suggest it is bad? People always say the government are watching us and our every move is recorded. But if we have nothing to hide whats the problem? Surely CCTV is a good thing? Other said they didn't want their faces to be seen on CCTV cameras, but why? Why does the media portray surveillance in a bad light? Your answers will help me gain understanding, as at this present time I can only see one side of the story!
Thanks for your opinions

But '((M))' , What is this agenda? What possible agenda could their be for the 80% of cctv cameras in the uk? What else are they used for?
You are misquoting the full quote is this:
Those who have nothing to hide have nothing to fear, this is an old cry of tyrants through the ages.
There are 4 issues at work:
#1 Quite simply you do not know what will become illegal in the future, for example there are now laws which make it illegal to have your car idle for more than 3 minutes.
#2 Mission creep, in that there is an old saying give them an inch they will take a mile, ergo they might watch you on the streets now, but nothing to fear nothing to hide means you'd be happy to have cameras in your rooms at home? Remember what may not be illegal today maybe illegal in the future note that the UK actually does have thought crimes, we have started to have political prisoners too. In effect you are welcoming cameras into your home as you say you have nothing to hide. This is false EVERYBODY has something to hide, if you don't then please post your credit card numbers on here for everybody to see.
The kicker with this is that everybody has different levels as to what is acceptable and what is not, so while on the streets it might be OK to some people, to others it is not. Have a read of Orwell's 1984 it is scary the surveillance they have there.
#3 CCTV does not reduce crime, and it is abused for example CCTV is supposed to be for our good?
Sooo when they executed that Brazilian bloke how come the CCTV cameras were conveniently not working on the tube?
Or when Ian Tomlinson was killed by police the cameras were again conveniently turned off and the film went missing.
#4 The government watching us no problem
This relies on one HUGE assumption, that the government is beneviolent and acting in our interest at large, which quite frankly is ridiculous the government act on behalf of those who give them bribes and give them money. The government does not act in our interests, it acts in the interests of corrupt MPs, Iraq wasn't in our interest Afghanistan wasn't in our interest either yet they still happened. And those who give bribes to them, Mittell for example Tony Blair/Labour was given a huge bribe and thus Blair helped him obtain a loan, this loan destroyed British jobs as steel plants were mothballed last month.
Ergo, it might be ok now, emphasis on MIGHT, but what if it changes? You already allowed it to start and it is impossible to put the genie back in the bottle. 20 years ago who'd have thought it would be illegal to protest in the centre of London? Who'd have thought it would be illegal to smoke indoors, who'd have thought it would be a crime to crticise the government (Damien Green). Ergo it is the old Zen thing, the only way to prevent such abuses is to deny them the field of battle.
It has already begun, 2015 people will be saying nothing to hide nothing to fear(misquoting) things when the government suggest implant chips into people. Even the nasty PRC government we demonise does not have as many cameras as us.
